Posted on Wed, 18 Mar 2015
Question: Hello. About four months ago I noticed a lump had appeared right next to my nipple. It has swollen up about three different times. The last time which was a few weeks ago it had gotten to be the size of a XXXXXXX squeezed it and puss and blood came out. Very painful and stinky. For the past few days it has swollen back up but each day it is growing, it is now a little bigger than a half dollar. My entire nipple and more is completely inflamed nothing will come out, no redness and not hot to the touch but it feels like its on fire and each time it gets bumped it gets even bigger.

Brief Answer:
Go for proper diagnosis ASAP

Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Thanks for your query.
Read and understood your problem.

To recapitulate: young female of 23 - 4 months - lump at nipple - swollen three different times- squeezed a few weeks ago - painful, stinky, pus, blood - each day growing up for the few days - entire nipple and more is inflamed - no redness, no discharge, not hot - feels like it is on fire - gets bigger if bumped up - on Ibuprofen ...

I would suggest you the following considering all the points you have nicely put- in :
- Consult a General Surgeon or Onco-Surgeon for clinical / physical examination of the breasts, armpits, neck for swelling.
- Tests: Mammography, Ultrasonography or MRI
- FNAC (Fine Needle Aspiration Cytology)
- If any discharge : For gram staining, culture and sensitivity.
- Biopsy if warranted
- Course of an antibiotic and continue Ibuprofen thrice daily.
- Local application of Liquid Povidone Iodine for keeping the area sterile.

Medical field is dependent upon the evidence and this being a benign or malignant lesion has to be either confirmed or ruled out.
These tests will also give a guideline for the further plan of treatment, whether medical and / or surgical.

You are too young and should not have been so late to have a proper diagnosis.

I hope this answer helps you for proper diagnosis and decision making, please feel free to ask for further relevant queries or if you feel that there is a gap-of-communication.
