Question : I have a one cm (10mm) raised skin coloured somewhat smooth lump under the skin on my buttock right where I would sit. I actually sit on it. It has been there for 6 years as I was told it was a lipoma and of no concern. I only recently decided to get it checked because of some tenderness and a feeling it was going deeper into my buttock. The ultrasound tech consulted with the radiologist and I was there for over an hour and half while they looked at the images. She is requested a biopsy, and without being able to tell me too much they said it did not image to be a lipoma or a sebaceous cyst. The didn't know what it was...I saw the images and you could see a subcutaneous lump creating the raised area and there was a lot of dark streaks going down in the image (deeper into the layers and to muscle). What could this be? I suggested melanoma of sorts and they simply gave me an indication that is likely what it is but to just wait for the biopsy. What could this be in your opinion?

Brief Answer:
Lets wait for biopsy report

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for asking

I read your question and i understand your concern. A lump for 6 years excluded as lipoma and sebaceous cyst which i totally agree with needs work up and waiting for biopsy to confirm as it is too early to narrow the differentials. Usual lumps in the buttock are pilonidal sinuses, or sebaceous cysts or hidradenitis cysts or peri anal dermatitis etc. But none of them fit your reports. Other possibilities of tumor need to be excluded and that biopsy will confirm. it may be a connective tissue tumor like sarcoma or melanoma but too early to comment on.

Lets wait for the biopsy report and see what insight histopathology of the lump has to offer. Only then we can connect the dots better and accurately.

I hope it helps. take good care of yourself and dont forget to close the discussion please.
