Brief Answer:
Read below.

Detailed Answer:
I read your question carefully and I understand your concern.

The causes of memory loss may be many. At times it may turn out not to be any memory loss at all, but simply anxiety or mood issues affecting concentration. For that reason every time memory loss is suspected it must first be evaluated. That is done through appropriate neuropsychological tests, sort of questionnaries which evaluate memory and other parts of cognition. There are many tests, the most routine simple one which can be done by your primary physician is the MMSE (mini mental state exam). Only if it evidences issues with memory or other higher mental functions it is then proceded to searching for a cause.

Causes as I said can be several such as stroke, tumors, Parkinson's, thyroid dysfunction, nutritional deficiencies or other metabolic issues. So a physical exam for other signs is done and then tests such as brain MRI imaging, thyroid function, vitamin B12 levels, liver and kidney function, electrolytes, blood sugar and blood count are part of the initial routine investigations.

If on the other hand neuropsychological tests reveal no memory or other neurological issues then as I said causes like anxiety might be considered.

I remain at your disposal for other questions.
