Brief Answer:
Consult Gynecologist for irregular cycles.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome to Healthcare magic.
I am Dr Ramadevi Wani. I will be answering your concerns today.
Stress both physical and mental can cause hormonal imbalance and this can result in irregularity in bleeding pattern. This is the most likely cause for the prolonged period bleeding that you are having now. (However if you are sexually active there is a small possibility of pregnancy and you need to get pregnancy test done). If you feel that the bleeding is not gradually reducing I advise you to take Mefenamic acid 500mg three times daily with food for 2-3 days. In most countries it is available over the counter. I am not sure about this in United states.
Now regarding irregular cycles, how irregular are they? What is your BMI? Do you have any excessive hair growth on the body? Do you have any milk secretion from the body?
The common reasons for irregular cycles in this age group can be:
1.     Hormonal imbalance specially if you are overweight
2.     Polycystic ovary disease
3.     Thyroid disease
4.     Increased secretion of Prolactin hormone
So I suggest you to fix an appointment with your Gynecologist. You need to get hormone tests done. You also need an ultrasound done to find out if you have polycystic ovaries.
I hope this helps.
If you have any further concerns, I will be happy to answer.

I'm about 5feet 5inches. Weight is about 240..... my period isn't like this every month, but last year around XXXXXXX I notice that I was still spotting on the eighth day pretty much like it us now. My period will decrease in flow around the fifth day and disappear that night then nothing on the six day and then in the seventh day it comes back....then there are months that it will go off on the seventh day which is normal for me
Also haven't seen any excessive hair growth and know abnormal pain just the prolong spotting.....

Details below.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome back.
From your notes I understand that you get your periods once every month but the bleeding pattern is irregular. Am I right? If so then there is no need for much concern.
I have calculated your BMI. It is 39.9 KG/M2. The normal BMI is between 18.5-25. This means that you are extremely obese. Please work on reducing weight. Consult dietician and join Gym. Take personal trainer in Gym. This will keep you motivated. Once you reduce weight the bleeding pattern gets corrected on its own. Maintaining a normal BMI is good for your general wellbeing too. Please get your thyroid hormone tested to make sure that obesity is not due to thyroid problem. As of now there is no need for any other tests.

I hope this helps.
If you have any further concerns, I will be happy to answer.

Yea pretty much just the prolong spotting. I do get my period around every 28 days. I've never been late. Never had kids. At the age of 23 I was in an automobile accident where I attained an open book pelvis fracture. The doctors told my mom I may never had children... I don't know if this can be a contribution to the problem. I will definitely start reducing my weight and get the hormone test done.asap..

Brief Answer:
As you reduce weight, the spotting gets corrected. Don't worry.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Very happy to know that you have regular cycles. Just don’t bother about prolonged spotting.
It will get corrected as you reduce weight.
The accident is not contributing to this problem. Don’t worry about it.
I did not understand why your doctors told your mom that you may never have children. Since you have regular cycles in all probability you are ovulating. You have uterus too. If any problem with fallopian tubes you can take help of assisted reproductive treatment ( in-vitro fertilization).
If you have any further concerns, I will be happy to answer.
With best wishes,
Dr Rama
