What Causes Mild Abdominal Pain Post EGD And EUS Procedure?

default
Posted on Mon, 17 Aug 2015
Question: Hello Doctor - I have a question about my recent EGD and EUS procedure.
I had EGD and EUS procedure today (12 Noon).
I started having mild abdominal pain after 1 hour of the procedure. The abdominal pain is generalized and constant.
It's been more than 12 hours after the procedure but I still have soreness and mild pain in abdomen.
No fever. I also have Gassy stomach and burning feeling inside the stomach.
Could it be a complication (perforation/Infection) from the procedure (EGD/EUS)?
Is this a concern? What should I do next?
Thanks for your time and help!

Best Regards!

Need to visit doctor

Detailed Answer:
hello,
i understand your concern.was it a diagnostic EUS ?. were biopsies taken during the procedure?
if the pain is severe and persistent I would advise to visit your doctor to get a physical examination which will help determine whether it is due to the procedure or unrelated

Hello Dr. XXXXXXX -

Thanks for your answer.

Yes, the EUS was diagnostic. I mean there were NO biopsies taken.

The pain is not severe but it's mild. But pain is constant or persistent.
Also, stomach is gassy. No fever yet.

It's already been 22 hours after the procedure.
After the procedure, They asked to watch for severe stomach pain or bloating or fever for 24 hours.

Is the mild pain/discomfort common after EUS for several hours?
Is there a possibility of perforation or other complications?

How perforation is detected?

Thanks again for your help and expert advice!

Regards
doctor
