Question : My 13.5 months old daughter had rabies shot for a non bite exposure. A stray dog was sniffing at her while she was in her stroller and me being a paranoid mother got her vaccinated. She developed a mild fever after the first shot but did not develop fever after the second and third shots. Her fourth shot was delayed by a day as there was no supply of rabipur in my city and me n her pediatrician didnt want to change the rabies vaccine of another brand. My concern is why did she develop a fever after fourth shot when she didnt develop after second and third shots? Last night she had a raised temp she didnt let me use thermometer as she was cranky but definitely she felt more warm so i assumed her temperature would be more than what was after her first shot. What could be the reason for developing fever after 4th shot.. the fever did subside with crocin drops.. she has not got fever since morning.. i vaccinated her at 1 pm afternoon and she got slight fever at 11.30 pm and then at 2.30 and then at today 7.30 morning. I gave her crocin drops in the morning and did not give her drops after that as she didnt have fever. Should i continue giving crocin drops for a day.. she is her normal self today.. pls tell me if there is any particular reason why she developed a fever after fourth shot..And also tell me if the origin of the fever was die to some other reason.. she doesnt have cold.. after 1 pm shot she developed fever at night 11.30 then at 2 am morning and then at 7.30 morning.. her temp is normal after that.. do you suspect any other reason other than vaccination?

Brief Answer:
No need to worry

Thanks for asking again on HealthcareMagic.

I have gone through your query carefully and understand your concerns. There is no reason to get apprehensive about why she did not develop a fever after the second and third shots. Not getting a fever is entirely acceptable and is no reason to get concerned.

Give Crocin drops only if the temperature is raised above 100°F. Unless the temperature is raised, there is no reason to continue to give Crocin drops.

The fever could be a reaction to the vaccination or could be due to a viral infection.

Let me know if I could help further.
