Question : Hi,

I've noticed that for the last day when I get out of bed or get up suddenly I get what feels like a short rush of blood moving around my head resulting in a very mild headache for a few seconds. I have had a stiff neck for the last year or so and not sure if that contributes to that recently? The headache or pain is very mild itself and only been for 1 day.

Brief Answer:
It may be associated to the neck stiffness or may be a separate entity too.

Detailed Answer:
Dr. Hanif warmly Welcomes you to my virtual clinic HCM!
I have carefully worked through your case, and can realize your health worries. Being your physician, I will take care all of your medical concerns.

For the last one year what you have it seems to be cervical vertebral issues; or muscle stiffness and spasm; or it may also be due to tension headache.

Right now what you feel may be due to:-
Postural Hypotension (In normal healthy individuals, when a person suddenly gets up from lying position the blood vessels contract and increases the venous return to the heart and avoids pooling of the blood to the lower extremities. Autonomic nervous system helps for that. In postural hypotension this function is lost or deranged to some extent and on getting up blood pools in the lower extremity vessels and cause the symptoms of mild and spontaneous headache, or dizziness, or blackout, all different in different people.)

You need to put on pressure stockings when in bed. Divide the getting out of bed in steps. Don't just get up suddenly. First sit calm while in the bed, then few moments later take legs down and remain sitting on edge of bed. Then stand up. After few moments put off the pressure stockings. It will help you a lot and in a few days you will no more need pressure stockings. But keep taking the steps to coming out of bed properly.

Take plenty of fluids and fresh fruits and keep a healthy diet. Don't take junk foods and tea, coffee, and chocolates in large amounts. Take one Tylenol at dinner. Start taking Surbex Z once at breakfast.

Investigations needed for future:-
Comprehensive metabolic panel.

Have a wonderful time ahead. Hope I answered all of your questions. Let me know if you have any further clinical concerns or doubts. I will be more than happy to get back to you in no time. If satisfied here, please give a generous five star rating and don't forget to close the discussion.
For any disease you have, a timely follow-up after sometime regarding the treatment efficacy and to see any need to change the treatment options is very necessary. Keep a follow up some days after this visit session ends.

Hi Dr.

Thank you for that. So in summary you believe it could be related to my stiff neck and/or a general headache that can be managed out?
