What Causes Mild Pain And Clicking Sensation In Ears?

Question: I blew my nose a week or so ago. There was a minor twinge of pain but only for a second. Since then I sometimes hear things louder than normal (as if hearing inside my head) and it fluctuates between loud and normal. If I close my ear with my finger I hear normally. It doesn't happen often but when I put cotton in my ear it doesn't happen at all. Will this get better on its own?

Hi and welcome to healthcaremagic,

The Eustachian tube connects the nose to the ear. This tube is responsible for maintaining air pressure inside the ear. Malfunction of this tube can give rise to your symptoms.

To open the tube you have to use decongestant nose drops like otrivin (oxymetazoline). These drops will open the tubes and improve the ventilation inside your ear. Instil 3 drops in each nostril 3 times a day for 6 days and follow it up with steam inhalation.
