What Causes Mild Pain At The Base Of Penis After Urinating?

default
Posted on Sat, 22 Aug 2015
Question: Hi, yesterday I experienced a mild spontaneous pain at the base of my penis after urinating in the morning, then went on to develop a headache, chills, aching muscles, and mild nausea. By the end of the day I felt much better, but this morning I was distressed to find that my penis had become slighly bulbus in shape, the sides of it hurt to the touch as if they were bruised, and my meatus had become fairly badly inflamed which means I can't pee straight and thus have to sit down to do it. I am quite concerned about this, do you have any idea what the cause may be? I had masturbated the previous day, but there were no immediate symptoms after that. Oh, and I live in a very humid place. Thank you.

Brief Answer:
Balanoposthitis.

Detailed Answer:
Welcome to Healthcaremagic.
Hi, I am Dr Anshul Varshney , I have read your query in detail , I understand your concern.
The way of your description fits into Balanoposthitis which is inflammation of the foreskin and glans in specially in uncircumcised males.
Another possibility is of Complicated Urinary Tract Infection (UTI).
I would advice in such scenario:
1. Ultrasound Abdomen
2. Urine Routine and Microscopy.
You would be presumably started on an antibiotic for the same and would modify the antibiotic based on the reports.
This is my personal opinion based on details available here. If you still have any other query, you may please ask me.

Hi Dr. Varshney, thank you for your swift response.

I've had a UTI once before in the past, and the symptoms are quite different this time. I don't have a burning sensation nor do I need to urinate frequently. In fact I don't really notice any symptoms unless I'm looking at my penis or when I urinate.

If it was balonopothitis, would it heal by itself or would I need treatment in the form of antibiotics?

Thank you.

Brief Answer:
You need treatment

Detailed Answer:
You definitely need treatment for this. This can be bacterial or fungal in origin.
Your doctor would examine and give you the appropriate treatment for this.
You would also need to get your blood sugar tested as diabetes can precipitate such infections.
I would also advice you in such case that you get investigated for UTI, as you had fever with chills, that is a sign of UTI.
If you have any further query, please ask me.
