Posted on Tue, 28 Jul 2015
Question: Hii my question Is about pregnancy, I and my girlfriend had unprotected sex on 09 XXXXXXX it was our first time and was sudden, but we didn't go upto that limit where any kind of ejection done. We stopped It very soon. She didn't take any kind of pregnancy prevention pills after that as we thought nothing is done. Her periods supposed to be started on 14 XXXXXXX but didn't. Her periods were normal every time before this. We were worried. She waited until 20 XXXXXXX and then performed a home pregnancy test on 21 which came negative. After that she went to her Dr with her mom who gave 5 day dose of Medicines. But yet no periods after completing dose. We were very stressed. She again performed a home pregnancy test on 27 XXXXXXX this time with morning sample for best result. The result was again negative. But still there is no periods . on 1 July again a home test with morning sample result was again negative. Now this is very confusing and we are very stressed, specialy she. She can't tell the situation at home. And can't go to family Dr.. Is there still an uncertainty weather she is pregnant or not. Now at this point what should we do? Why periods are not coming? What would be the best method to test pregnancy, blood test or ultrasound . if there I sany medicine dose which can bring periods plz suggest. Her age is 20 and height 5.1'weight 41 kg. Plz help us..

Hello,
thanks for the query to hcm,

Firstly as home urine pregnancy test is negative as of today then she is not pregnant at all. However the best way is to get a serum beta hcg test. if the test is negative pregnancy is completely ruled out.
Secondly, if negative, then an ultrasound shall need to be done to look for endometrial lining thickness which if is more than 10mm still then she can be again given a withdrawal bleeding once again with progesterones course for 5 days. The bleeding should ideally resume in next 7 days.
But if again if the menses don't start then a dilatation and curettage wuld need to be done to remove the old endometrium.
Also stress per se can itself cause hormonal imbalance and delay the menses to a great deal. I believe she is already under stress and needs to calm down and relax as there is unlikely to be a pregnancy , so she is safe and menses can be resumed if not by medications then surely after a D& C.

Thanx a lot sir... As you said there is unlikely to be a pregnancy,.. It gives great relief because than we can go for the best medical facility to ensure her health if menses do not start in upcoming days .. We are from small town and it's default to get serum beta hcg test without coming in eyes of people and relatives.. Are 3 home pregnancy tests enough to ensure that there is no pregnancy? If it's so we can go to any doctor to resolve problem. For now as u said menses should resume in 7 days can you plz give a brief medicine dose which can help to bring the menses. After dose if menses again not come than what should we do.? Is Serum beta hcg test would need to be done again to confirm.? Or we can relia on home test and go to doctors for further checkup? .. Plz mention medicines as she is not taking any medicine right now.

Hello.
the pregnancy tests if done 8 days ater the missed periods ,3 as u said and if they are negative then they are conclusive else its always bwtter to get a serum beta hcg done.
allow the bleeding start first after ipill intake and if pregnancy is negative then you should just wait for about next 2 weeks for menses to resume.

So sir we should just wait now to resume menses to resume naturally, if not naturally then by medicine? I could not understand the line "allow the bleeding start first after ipill intake"
Thanks a lot for your guidance sir..

Hello.
As mentioned earlier. The bleeding should start after ipill intake in next 7 days. The XXXXXXX one should wait is 2 weeks...else the option left is only dilatation and curettage. Ifyou have already crossed the ipill period now and have taken a course od progeaterone pills for 5 days as well and yetin next 7 days there has been no bleed then dilatation and curettage should be done.
