Question : What can be causing blood and mucus to leak period-like from the anus?
Brief Answer:
colonoscopy ulcerative colitis
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
You have really observed it very precisely.
Mucus and blood in stools suggest an ulcer in the rectum or large intestine. I would strongly advice a colonoscopy (an endoscopy from below).
This will not only detect the problem but the colorectal surgeon can also take a biopsy and send for microscopic examination to get a correct diagnosis. Biopsies are also taken even if the doctor does not suspect cancer.
I would add not to take emperical treatment blindly. A correct diagnosis can solve your problem.
the commonest cause is an amoebic ulcer or ulcerative colitis.
Take care. Wish you good health
