Question : Hi. For the past 5/6 weeks my 5year old son has being having a mucus discharge every evening from his bum.It started when he had a chest infection and was on antibiotics for that, although I don't know if the two are related. He has autism and not a good diet, very restricted in what he eats, although there have been no changes to his diet that would cause this. Otherwise he is well. Any ideas what is causing this and should I bring him to GP? Thanks.

Hi
Welcome to Healthcaremagic
Greetings of the day
Dear Ms
Chest infection and mucous discharge are not related to each other. It would be very helpful if you could provide me with the following additional information
1. Is the mucous discharge present in stools or from buttock region?
2. Does he pass stools regularly?
3. Does he have loose stools?
4. Is there any redness or swelling in buttock region
Awaiting your response
Take care

                                    hi,
He passes stools every day. mostly they are normal, occasional hard ones. No loose stools.
No redness in buttock region but he has been picking at his bum lately as if something might be irritating it.
The mucous discharge is present on its own. it just comes out without any warning, clear gel-like substance.
thank you.
