What Causes Multiple Nodules On Right Side Of Lower Back?

default
Posted on Thu, 11 Jun 2015
Question: I have multiple nodules on the right side of my lower back (in the sacroiliac area) that I believe to be lipomas. They have been there for almost 3 years (since the c-section birth of my son). These nodules are intermittently very painful, and now there is a new nodule on the left side of my lower back. The nodules do not show up on MRI. I have read numerous articles about episacral lipomas ("back mouse") that are very painful, and excising the nodules relieves the pain. The MDs and surgeon that I have seen tell me that they are not lipomas b/c lipomas are not painful. I want the nodules removed ASAP. What else could they possibly be, and how do I find a surgeon to remove them?

Brief Answer:
Lipomas can be painful.

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Not all Lipomas are painless. Those swellings which are in relation to nerves (Neuro lipoma )are painful.
As per your description, they look like Lipomas only.
The best way to diagnose the swelling is by FNAC ( Fine Needle aspiration Cytology ).
I prefer to remove the swelling surgically and send it for histopathological examination ( Biopsy ) .
If a Surgeon is not willing to do surgery, please consult a Dermatologist and get FNAC. Once the diagnosis is confirmed, you can meet the surgeon.
If there is a provision of meeting another surgeon, please do that .Request him to remove them as they are causing pain . Biopsy will give exact diagnosis.
Hope I answered your query. If you have any questions, I will clarify further.
Wish you good health.
Regards
