Question: Is it possible to have a mild case of dengue fever? We got back from Central XXXXXXX Belize and Guatamala last week. All week I have good hours and then I feel like I have the flue. My muscles ache, I have a headache, and feel like crying. I take tylenol and drike gaterade and after awhile I feel better, then I feel good for a few hours and then whoom, it hits again ....

Brief Answer:
Severity of infection can be variable

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Welcome and thanks for your query.
I understand your concern .
Any viral infection including Dengue can give you fever, headache and body ache. It can also affect your mood and sense of wellbeing also.
The good thing about viral infection is that most often it is self limiting and you will be fine in a few days.
Please upload the results if you have done any tests.
Hope you will get well soon.

They did blood tests but they have not been uploaded to MyChart. One was for white cell count vs. red cell count. Dr. said it was normal. Also looked into Lyme disease, but they said it would take 1-2 days, have not heard back. I did not have a rash which was supposed to be first sign of Lyme. I don't know of other tests, I was not fully myself. I know they did a chest X-ray which they said was normal and a scan of my head because of the extreme headache, but said nothing showed abnormal. Thank you for your answer. Viral infections suck.

Brief Answer:
The symptoms would pass without danger

Detailed Answer:
Glad to note that you were told to have normal cell count. This is good news. Dengue can be dangerous if the platelets are low and there is internal bleeding due to the same. Otherwise except for some of the horrible symptoms you are experiencing, there is nothing much to worry.

Thank you for your answers. The way I've been feeling, just having someone there to tell me there is not much to worry about and just wait it out to get better actually helps me. Thank you.
