Question: Hi, I have muscle tighness always in the mid stomach region and it is always projected outwards significantly; Even after passing stool, the tightness/projection does not go away. I am 62 years old male with Hypertension and CKD 4 ; Ultrasound report did not show up anything significant . Also IBS and constipation are alternating. Which test determines cause of this condition accurately? And what is the probable cause ?I do not have symptoms of acid reflux like vomitting, nausea etc.and my appetite is normal.

Brief Answer:
Dyspepsia/Gastroparesis

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for posting your query.
I am Dr.R.K and I am pleased to asssit you.
The tightness is the abdomen could be due to abdominal bloating or fluid accumulation. Since the ultrasound scan did not show any fluid, the tightness is due to bloating only. Gastroparesis is one common cause of abdomina bloating.
You can take medications like Lesuride for relief. Consult your doctor before taking any medications.
You have not mentioned whether you are a diabetic. Diabetes is a common cause of both gastroparesis and constipation.
You can take fiber supplements like Cremadiet for good bowel movements.

I would suggest an upper GI endoscopy and a colon transit study for assessment of your symptoms.

I hope that answers your query.
Let me know if you have any more questions.
Regards,
Dr.R.K.

Hi doctor, thanks for addressing my concern; I am not diabetic ; Also, since I am suffering already from Irritable bowel syndrome since many years, whether Fibre supplements will benefit to me ? Also, I want to know whether Hernia in stomach will cause similar symptoms . Also, I want to know other causes of Gastroparesis, apart from diabetes.

Brief Answer:
Fiber supplements still helpful

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Yes, fiber supplements will be helpful.
No, hernia in the stomach does not cause similar symptoms.
The other causes of gastroparesis include surgery to the stomach. But in most of the cases, the cause is not known.
