What Causes Myelodysplastic Syndromes While Suffering From CLL?
Question: What are the chances, what is the relationship even, of having MDS develop out of CLL.?
My wife has the chronic lymphacytic leukemia, with some suspicion of the myeloid dysplastic syndrome, which as I understand, CAN/or DOES turn into ALL…which is fatal. Whereas the CLL is pretty much a lifelong pain in the ass, but not what kills you. This is pretty advanced stuff..we're in a clinical trial at Ohio State w one of the country's best leukemia oncologists… and he says he doesn't THINK she has the MDS, or if she does, it's very early stages…too early to tell, I guess. But it's in the back of my mind all the time, like, whenever I look at her. You can imagine. So….you know anything about all that?

She has CLL. It is chronic lymphocytic leukemia. It is very slow growing leukemia with best prognosis. Chances of MDS from CLL is not common.
But chemotherapy induced changes also contribute.
In MDS there is pancytopenia. Means all cells are decreased in number. It can be easily distinguished by routine complete blood count and peripheral smear examination.
Don't worry much about that. Send me her last complete blood count report. so that I can help you further.
