Question: I had prostate cancer and had external radiation treatments. 3 years ago. Had burning and pain when urinating for couple years.. Had retention and had a cathitor. put in for 5 days. After it was removed no more pain or burning since. Still had some trouble urinating once in awhile. .Last February my urologist did the scope exam to view my bladder. He said it was perfect on sign of any thing wrong. My question is a couple times since I have had very minor blood come out when urine stream started.. I told my DR and he said not to worrry because when I viewed your system it was perfact. He said the minor blood was probably from my Prostate from maybe a strain. I had my have urine checked and no infection. What you feel about this.? I also have ITP .

Brief Answer:
Symptoms due to Post Radiation Urethra Stenosis.

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for your query, based on the facts that you have posted it appears that you had Cancer of the prostate which was successfully treated with radiotherapy.

To develop a narrowing of the urethral passage (Stricture)is common and known complication of radiotherapy where prostatic part of the urethra gets narrowed causing difficulty in passing urine and at times causes retention of urine .

You had retention of urine which needed catheterization to empty the bladder .

The bleeding that you had after removing the catheter is mostly due to injury to strictured segment (narrowed ) urethra due to catheterization.

Since your urethra is now dilated which has made your urination pain free and your Cystoscopic findings are normal ,you need not worry at all. However you may need frequent dilatation or self intermittent catheterization to keep urethral passage wide open to avoid getting dysuria .

Ensure to drink more water .

Hope I have answered your query ,please feel free to ask if you have more questions I shall be happy to help you
Thanks and Regards.
