Question : what might cause a strange chemically smell in my house that makes my nose become very clear but slightly burning-feeling, and usually more moist, even dripping nasal fluid, and seems connected with a kind of - fluttering in my A-fib heart. It is usually when I am in a closed and heated room-- rapidly disappears when in better ventilates place or outside. No one else in the house seems to have this problem; it is more pronounced when I am sitting down. this seems to happen almost always in my own home, but whenever I'm there and the windows are closed because the furnace in on (oil fired baseboard heat, very dry--probably too dry, but then we've lived here over 10 years and this has not happened before.

Detailed Answer:

Hello XXXXXXX

Welcome on HCM!

I understand your concern and would say that the fact you are having such a concern different from the other members of your family implies a higher sensitivity against certain chemical compounds you are having.

My conclusion is reinforced by the fact that this strange chemically smell is linked with a certain place (your house), certain conditions (a closed and heated room, and lower level from the floor; disappears with getting out the house or opening the windows).

The fact that this unpleasant feeling leads to nasal mucosa irritation (with dripping nasal fluid) is also in favor of a local irritating chemical compound.

I suspect of your oil fired baseboard heating system. Probably something is wrong recently with it. You need to measure the level of room humidity and also any waste oil products from your heating system. Probably it is necessary to consult a technician for you heating system.

Hope to have been helpful.

Feel free to ask me again in case of further uncertainties.

Greetings!
