What Causes Nausea And Dizziness While On Tramadol Post A Salpingectomy?

default
Posted on Fri, 15 Jul 2016
Question: I recently had a salpingectomy. My NP prescribed me Tramadol 50mg for the pain, to be taken 1-2 tabs every six hours as needed. I took a dose of 2 (100mg) around three hours ago. Then, about an hour ago, I started to feel quite ill - nauseated, dizzy, drowsy, a light headache, anxious, etc. I hadn't eaten in about six hours so I guessed maybe it was my blood sugar dropping. After drinking some juice and getting some carbs into my system I do not feel any better. Well, maybe a little less nauseated, but I am laying down and the drowsiness is making it difficult for me to even keep my eyes open or focused as I write this.

I am a 25 year old female, otherwise extremely healthy and lead an active lifestyle. I don't drink or smoke and I eat well. I have a prescription also for Xanax but have not taken any. I am not on any other medications. I am a little tired from this week, several nights of only 3-4 hours of sleep... but the drowsiness I am experiencing just seems excessive. Can you please tell me what is going on and if I should be concerned?

Detailed Answer:
Hi
greetings
I understand your situation.
tramadol is a very good analgesic we often use for post operative periods like in your case.
I think some people are little sensitive and they get this nausea and dizziness.
I feel you should have taken 50mg after food.since you have taken on almost empty stomach more severe these problems. Now you can take paracetamol for pain after food.
I don't know the brands available there but if you can take either Capsule Rabeprazole or pantoprazole 20 or 40 mg along with domperidone 10mg 2 or 3 times will give you some relief. you can also try with some antacids. You can discuss with your treating doctors.
. can also try drinking more fluids.
You will be alright soon.
feel free to ask your doubts with more details. Regards

The nausea has all passed at this point, however I am so uncontrollably drowsy... I am fighting to keep my eyes open, and I feel like I can't get up to do anything. I keep nodding off a little, waking up suddenly because I'm trying to stay awake and then I feel like I haven't been breathing..

Hi
ok.I think your giddiness will also subside if you take rest for few hours. If it is intolerable consult a doctor.
Or else and if you are not alone you can sleep for some time with the tablet you already have.(alprazolam).
Drink more fluids and eat well.
As suggested earlier take some antacids with more fluids.
hope you are convinced. Regards
