What Causes Nausea And Vomiting While On Meropenem?

default
Posted on Fri, 6 Oct 2017
Question: I was given meropenem in fusions twice daily for a bladder infection for 5 days. Three times after the infusions, when I stood up, I was so dizzy standing was impossible. Once I experienced nausea a vomiting. After sitting some minutes, I recovered. The infusions were stopped.
Now--two days later-- I felt "woozy" and weak while getting ready for church. I felt my pulse and it was very irregular, so I sat down for two hours, after which the heartbeat was normal. Is this a possible side effect of this drug? The blood pressure was checked each time and was within normal range for me. (A little high ) Thank you for answering. XXXXXXX XXXXXXX Deal

Brief Answer:
Please follow up with the urgent care to get an EKG done

Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXXXXX
Thank you for trusting HealthcareMagic,

Blood pressure variations, dizziness, and palpitations can occur during the infusion of Meropenem.

However, persisting dizziness, weakness and irregular heart beat even after 2 days of stopping Meropenem requires evaluation with an EKG.

Meropenem can sometimes trigger cardiac problems including cardiac arrhythmias and Myocardial infarction.

Please be advised to follow up with the urgent care to get an EKG done and management accordingly.

Hope this answers your questions
