What Causes Nausea, Lower Back Pain And Abdominal Bloating After Taking An I-pill?

Question: Hello Doctor. So we had intercourse on the 29th of July unprotected and she took an ipill exactly on the 14th hour. Her last 6 cycles have been 34, 32, 37, 34, 31 and 31 days. Considering the above details, we had intercourse on the 11th day of the cycle. The side effects were bloating, headache, nausea, lower back pain, lower abdomen pain and breast heaviness. However except for breast heaviness and lower back pain everything else has subsided. Her next period is due on the 20th as per the calculator. Couple of days back she had clear discharge and yesterday she had loose stools. are these just side effects of the pill or is there a cause of concern?

Brief Answer:
Loose stools not due to the pill

Detailed Answer:
Hi dear,
I have gone through your question and understand the concerns.
All these are the effects of the pill except loose stools.
Loose stools are likely due to gastroenteritis.
She should take ORS solution for rehydration and consult a physician if there is associated vomiting and pain in abdomen.
Hope you found the answer helpful.

Stools aside, are we safe considering the time Ipill was taken? Because there has been no withdrawal bleeding at all and it has been 12 days since the pill was taken. Can you please quickly provide a response to My above query. I have provided quite a lot of information. While loose stool was also my concern but the bigger picture was left unanswered. Is there a risk of pregnancy considering the ipill was taken in 14 hours on the 11th day. Average cycle length is 31 to 32 days.

Brief Answer:
Almost nil chance of pregnancy

Detailed Answer:
Hi dear,
I pill taken within 72 hours of unprotected intercourse prevents pregnancy in 95-98% cases.
So, the chances of pregnancy are extremely rare.
Not all the patients have withdrawal bleeding after taking i pill.
So, it is not a reason to worry.
Every body responds differently to the pill.
The timing of the pill is most important and that is accurate in your case.
So, there is nothing to worry.

Thank you Doctor. When can we expect the period to happen considering the fact that the pill was taken early in the cycle. Right now she's got acne break outs and breast heaviness.

Brief Answer:
Can be delayed by 2-3 weeks

Detailed Answer:
Hi dear,
The periods can be delayed by 2-3 weeks from the expected dates.
Acne and breast tenderness is due to the progesterone hormone in the pill.

Thank you Doctor. From today afternoon she is again feeling extremely nauseous, headache and experiencing severe lower back pain. Are these still side effects of the pill. Would the side effects happen on and off. I would appreciate if you can clarify my doubt quickly here. Thanks

Dear Doctor,

Thank you for your response. In continuation to our earlier discussion, She started bleeding 4 days back and it continued for 4 days. Today it has come down a bit. But bloating and breast heaviness still exists. She took a urine test and it came out as invalid. Could there still be a possibility of pregnancy? We are worried. Please reply at the earliest. Thank you
