Posted on Fri, 3 Nov 2017
Question: hello, I have a concern regarding my baby. she's 15 months and we were at a McDonald's play place two days ago when I noticed she had something in her mouth, when I went to get it out it was gone (assuming she swallowed it) but her mouth was bleeding so I keep wondering if it was a small piece of glass. if she swallowed a piece of glass would that affect her stomach?

Brief Answer:
I won't get worried as two days passed uneventfully

Detailed Answer:
Hello

Thanks for asking on this platform

I have gone through the query and do understand your concern.
After ingestion of glass piece there can be local trauma to oral cavity, immediate respiratory symptoms if it gets into wind pipe or gastric symptoms like Nausea, vomiting, bleeding in stool if in intestine.
Glass piece is a sharp objection and it could have caused symptoms or bleeding by this time.
I won't get worried as already it's more than 48 hours and baby has no active symptoms, and is active, playful.
If you want to be on safer side you can take her to a pediatrician for evaluation. Glass piece is a radio opaque material and it can be detected in X Ray also.

I hope this helps.
Please let me know if you have any more questions.
Regards
