Question: My daughter, a violist, is complaining of neck and jaw pain. I massaged it and used a heating pad. It seems to have helped. But now, a day later, she is complaining of same, with the addition of slight numbness in arm. Sounds like overuse but I want to make sure I don't miss something. She is in her early 20s.

Brief Answer:
Muscle and nerve strain most likely due to repeated activity

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thank you for trusting HealthcareMagic,

Neck and jaw pain associated with numbness in the arm is common in violists.
This is due to strain put on muscles and nerves while practicing for long hours.
It is nothing o be worried out.

Management is by taking adequate rest. Cut back on practice for a while. Make sure to sit in an appropriate posture while playing.

She can continue Advil for 2-3 days.
