Brief Answer:
could be due to spasm of neck muscles.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
welcome to HCM.
Thanks for your query.

The discomfort in the neck while drinking cold or during coughing could be due to spasm initiated by that cold drink.

Also cold liquids have a desiccating (drying) effect on the throat. Sometimes it is an allergy or throat is sensitive to sudden temperature change.

This kind of reflex spasms are NOT usually serious to cause any complications. They could occur as a result of lack of exercise.

However, there is no active treatment required except that you should avoid cold drinks, ice creams especially after a exercise.

The sudden temperature change could also be beneficial to common throat viruses.

Always hold the first intake of cold liquids or food in your mouth for a little while before swallowing.

Application of warm compresses during prolonged episodes would be helpful.

Use a medicated gargle such as Betadine or Chlorhexidine.

Continue with anti-inflammatory drug (ibuprofen) and take over the counter anti-allergic medication. like cetrizine 10 mg twice daily for your cough.

You may also discuss this with your family physician.

Hope I answered your query. Please do let me know if there are any other concerns.
