Posted on Thu, 10 Dec 2015
Question: My granddaughter who is 21 years of age has the following symptoms for over a year. Her neck is sore to the touch, he often feels dizzy, she has fainted on several occasions while attending school in more than one country. She complains of feeling hot but is not necessarily hot to the touch. Her neck, during these periods, is quite painful to the touch. She is overseas right now but will be home in DEC and hopefully can have a full check up .While she was attending school in China, she became very ill with these symptoms and the airline would not allow her to fly home without a nurse accompanying her. Then she will feel better for a period and now has some or all of the same symptoms.

I would explain as follows:

Detailed Answer:

Hello!

Welcome and thank you for asking on HCM!

Regarding your concern, I would explain that your granddaughter symptomaology seems more compatible with a musculoskeletal disorder affecting the nerve endings on that region.

It is important to differentiate between a backbone degenerative disorder, leading to the underlying nerve radix compression or neck muscle affection.

For this reason it is necessary a careful physical examination, neck backbone X ray study and if necessary CT or MRI.

Anti-inflammatory drugs would be beneficial for relieving the pain coupled with physiotherapy rounds.

She needs to discuss with her attending doctor about this issue to find the most appropriate strategy for management of pain symptomatology.

Hope to have been helpful to you!

Feel free to ask me whenever you need!

Greetings!
