default
Posted on Mon, 20 Jul 2015
Question: My son has a nerve pain below the knee around the outside towards the back half of the leg. Not the calf. What could it be and what can be done about it. Iy is not constant but, he plays soccer and when the pain comes on it is extreme, so bad that he has been stretchered off a couple of times. It prevents him from sport for about 3 weeks and he is okay to go back and play.

Brief Answer:
IT may be neuritis or tendinitis.

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for your query

I'm Dr Sudhir Kumar

I have gone through your query and understand your concern. It can be neuritis of lateral popliteal nerve or tendinitis of lateral hamstring group of muscles. Treatment of both the condition is rest and analgesic such as ibuprofen. For neuritis you can take Mecobalamin to relieve neuralgic pain.It can be further investigated by MRI of knee joint and nerve conduction tests.

You can discuss with your doctor about it.

Hope your query get answered. If you have any clarification then I will be happy to help you.

Wishing you a good health.
Take care.
