What Causes Neuropathy In The Inguinal Area And Sole Of The Feet?

default
Posted on Mon, 19 Dec 2016
Question: Yes, I have a strange question. Can neuropathy be in other parts of the body besides feet and such? My reason for asking, is I have neuropathy on the bottom of feet. But, for about six months, I have had the same sensations in my groun area. Sometime it will take will take several minutes before I can urinate. I have a rare form of pneumonia and the only treatment is prednisone. Well, the prednisone has also helped this issue. I still have the sensations very strong. Even stranger, when this sensation gets very strong, that is the only way I know that I need to urinate. If I need to see a doctor other than my neurologist, who would I see?

Brief Answer:
can occur anywhere where nerves present

Detailed Answer:
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

Neuropathy refers to abnormal function of the nerves.

It can occur in any part of the body because nerves are found in any aspect of the body.
Neuropathy can occur in any of the limbs or trunk. It can affect the nerves to the major organs (heart, kidney, GI tract, urinary tract, even the eyes ).

Eg some persons may have inappropriate response of the heart to exercise or abnormal function of the stomach and intestines affecting digestion and as in your case, abnormal function of the urinary tract

Because it relates to the function of the nerves, a neurologist is actually the best person because they assess nerve function in aspect of the body.
A neurologist can do nerve conduction tests to see if the nerves are working appropriately, these tests are not done in any other area of medicine

If you are not happy with your neurologist, then you can see another one but a neurologist is the best doctor to assess neuropathy.

Blood tests and imaging (of the spine where the nerves come from), may be needed.
Blood tests for neuropathy may include- complete blood count, ESR (checks for inflammation in the body), kidney and liver function, thyroid function, vitamin b12, folate and b6 levels, screen for diabetes

I hope this helps, feel free to ask any other questions
