Brief Answer:
Various causes need to be ruled out...

Detailed Answer:
Hi

Thanks for posting the query

Nose bleed in the elderly could be due to various reasons such as:
1. Dry nose, due to atrophy of the nasal glands.
2. Rupture of the tiny aneurysms inside the nasal cavity due to sudden increase in blood pressure.
3. When on medicines such as blood thinners or anticoagulant.
4. Sinus related problems, etc.

Your husband requires a complete examination of the nose by an apt ENT doctor to rule out the causes.

Meanwhile, he can try using saline nasal spray, drink plenty of warm water and avoid coffee/smoking (if any).

Hope I have answered the query. I will be available for the follow up queries.
