What Causes Numb Sensation In Ear?

default
Posted on Thu, 9 Oct 2014
Question: The cartilage in my right ear develops a numb sensation, usually a few hours after I have worn glasses. It feels like it is bruised and numb. Pulling, tugging and massaging the cartilage usually reduces the symptom. This started about 7 years ago by wearing earbuds from my ipod, so I stopped. About 3 years ago i started wearing glasses full time. After about 8 months the symptoms reappeared. Now I wear contacts but the symptoms randomly appear, usually after I've worn my sunglasses.

Sometime they appear when I am wearing the glasses but usually they appear later in the afternoon or evening, and they are always gone in the morning, when i wake up.

Brief Answer:
neuralgic symptoms.

Detailed Answer:
Hi, thanks for your query.

In my opinion, you might be having neuralgic symptoms. All your symptoms favor this.
There is no permanent cure for this.
Any trigger factors like wearing glasses may aggravate the condition.
This can be treated with carbamazepine Tablet 100 to 200 mg twice daily for 5 days, depending on the severity of the symptoms. This is a prescription medicine.
This can treat the flare of numbness and pain.

Hope my answers have helped you. Thanks.

Brief Answer:
Do not worry.

Detailed Answer:
Hi, thanks for your follow up query.
Do not worry much about this. It will settle down. Stress can flare up the condition.

I would suggest you to consult with the doctor and discuss my suggestions and about this drug. You can be started on it right away if there are no other issues / contraindications involved.
