Question: I've been experiencing tingling from head to toe. As well as numbness, and dizziness. I stopped taking Zoloft 100 mg on Thursday. Could this be a side affect? I have extreme anxiety at all times. So I also take 1mg of kalazopam 2x's a day as well as Hydroxyzine Pam 50mg 3x's per day. I'm waiting on insurance to pick up Lexapro...

Brief Answer:
Yes it is withdrwal effect of zoloft

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX

Thanks for writing to us.

You were on Zoloft 100 mg and stopped suddenly.Withdrawal of sudden stoppage of zoloft causes symptoms like Paraesthesia (unexplained skin sensation such as burning, tingling or prickling), Anxiety, Nausea, Sexual dysfunction, Insomnia and/or restlessness, Confusion, Anger, Electric shock-like sensations, Muscle pains, Tremors, Nightmares.

Withdrawal symptoms appear in 1 to 4 days of stopping medicine and can last for 1 to 4 weeks. Better to stop medicine gradually by decreasing dose 25 mg each week.

Other option to treat withdrawal is take clonazepam 1 mg three times a day. Also take vitamin B12 either orally or in injection form for numbness. This well help to reduce/stop severity of symptoms.

Starting of Lexapro can reduce or stop your withdrawal as both are SSRI(Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitor). If you can get lexapro, start it. Do not wait for insurance if feasible.

Hope I have answered your query, I will be happy to help further.

Regards,
Dr.Chintan Solanki.
