Brief Answer:
anxiety is the usual cause

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

this numbness usually occurs in the following situations:
- nerve dysfunction (for example a nerve block when the dentist needs to repair your teeth or in neuropathy, etc)
- faintness and pre-syncope, that is the feeling that you are about to pass out may make you feel numb around the lips and in other parts of your body.
- anxiety, the most common cause...

If you don't have any serious medical condition then anxiety is likely!
The time needed for the numbness to wear off depends on its cause. If anxiety is the cause then the anxiety levels have to be reduced first!

I hope you find my comments helpful!

Kind Regards!
