Question : Have been to ER twice in the last 4 months. ALL blood work normal cardiac enzymes normal, chem profile normal, chest X-ray normal. Heart XXXXXXX 2 years ago normal.. Stress test presented with PVC's 24 hour monitor 2 years ago showed same results but not freq. PVC's Decided that the meds caused worse side effects than the PVC..Made this decision with doctor and his approval. This was 2 years ago. The shaking after the SOB is awful.
Having numbness in fingers of left hand. just the ring and little finger, but this is not from my neck. test are normal.hands shake badly all the time, severe SOB, no real chest 'pain' but twinges and tightness…on Primadone for resting and systemic tremor, normal neck MRI and Head MRI. I can't deal with this SOB.. I'm only 5'2" and weigh 118#'s.so I'm not overweight. .Retired RN.. 57 work at Starbucks.. on my feet 4-6 hours 5 days a week..No problems with work and getting thru my shift. . Just colored my hair and had to sit down for a min out of breath and shaking so bad.. Will not go back to ER again. I mean what can I do if my cardiac enzymes and blood work is normal. So is my chest. Will not let them XXXXXXX me again. Was raised by a surgeon who passed in 2000. He would turn over if he knew I was asking a question like this on the net. Know plenty of docs but they all would say go back to cardiologist.. BS…

Hi and thank you so much for this query.

I am so sorry to hear about these symptoms that you have reported. It is rather unfortunate that no definite diagnosis has been reached at which would help establish a plan to address the symptoms once and for all.

Though tests have not been able to reveal a diagnosis, I am happy to know that the results are rather reassuring then concerning. I will like to know how often you get this SOB and for how long it lasts . How often do you get these symptoms in a day? If these symptoms show up multiple times in a day and no real abnormality is found on testing, they may be suggestive of anxiety or panic disorders. Ask your doctor whether he has ever considered these options as possible causes of your symptoms.

The pain in the small and ring finger is typical of a cubital nerve problem. Get this checked out. This nerve is commonly injured at the elbow. Have you ever had any concerns with your elbow?

I agree with you not to go to the ER at this time again because there is certainly nothing too alarming or different from the previous visits. Monitor rather and she what happens when no ER visit is done. Be rest assured, this is not life threatening.

Keep me posted about the evolution of these symptoms. I hope you find this information helpful and I wish you well. Feel free to ask for more information and clarifications if need be.

I do not have anxiety. However, I do have psoriatic arthritis and have been on Enbrel 50 mg sub-q twice a week. The SOB and increased hr occurs many times thru out the day..only relieved by rest. I do not have cubital nerve problems. Ruled out by my neurologist. Frankly I'm extremely concerned by the SOB increased hr and shaking. I do not have hypoglycemia either. My dermatologist is the one who dx my arthritis. I had been literally complaining to my rheumatoid doc for 3 years about the swelling. He made jokes about my fingers not swelling when he looked at them. This seems to be the way most docs are not days. Rush you thru. However my dermatologist is a kind young man and is extremely proactive, thorough, and meticulous. He took one look at my skin, fingernails and severely swollen joints (and my fingers growing sideways) and gave me a definitive dx. I know fatigue could be a result of the P A but what about the heart racing and the SOB. I was in his office 3 days ago and my Bp was 130/70. However my last 3 readings were 160/94..168/100..when I was at 2 other Docs office in the last month. They said it was because I was in pain. However, I disagree. My pain level wasn't even a 3-4 that day. My dad used to say if you listen to a pt. long enough they will dx themselves. THIS is not one of those cases. BUT…You can't dx over the phone and I'm afraid over the net. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanking you ahead of time.

HI and thanks for this query.

The paradoxical nature of our symptoms really make me concerned about a possible anxiety disorder. I am curious to know whether your doctors had considered this and ruled it out or it has not been considered. if it has never been considered, I will recommend that you get evaluated for this and probably tried on treatment for this condition. This would at least confirm or tell us we need to look some where else.

From your experience with the other doctors, I am certain you never have a settled mind while in their offices. Of course I can tell you are well relaxed, comfortable and not stressed when with your dermatologist. This is why I would accord more importance to the values obtained in his office as opposed to that in the other doctors office as you not been in a neutral state is enough reason to have an increased blood pressure. You may also want to control it at home and report the values for more comparison and interpretations.

I hope this helps. Let me hear from you and know what you take and thoughts are. I wish you well.
