Brief Answer: See details below Detailed Answer: Hi and thank you so much for this query. I a so sorry to hear about this sudden numbness that you noticed early this morning. Is there any muscle weakness? By this I mean difficulties in moving the leg. If there should be any difficulty in moving this leg, I will suggest that you go to the hospital immediately for further evaluation and management as this may represent a stroke or a neurological problem involving the spinal cord that needs immediate attention. If there is no loss of muscle function, I will suggest that you monitor this for another day. This loss of sensation probably represents a problem with a branch of the sciatic nerve out o the spinal cord that assures this function of sensitivity. The symptoms should typically regress within if this is just a transient state that does not represent any pathology or ongoing pathological process. If the symptoms should persist beyond 24hours, I will advise that you seek consultation and management. In all, if there is any form of muscle weakness, I will suggest that you seek medical consultation and management right away. If there is no muscle weakness, monitor for 24hours and seek further medical symptoms are symptoms persist or worsen or fail to improve significantly. I hope this helps and provides enough guiding information for you to act on. Feel free to ask for more information if need be and clarifications. Thanks for using our services and I wish you well. Dr. Ditah, MD.
