What Causes Numbness In Right Hand Thumb While Walking?

Question: I have a 20 year old daughter. She has been experiencing when she walks let's say at a mall numbing on the tip of the fingers in her hand. That probably started about 2 - 2 1/2 yrs ago. It only happens on 1 hand at a time and not that often. Mainly the right hand and the thumb. Today, she started walking on the treadmill and within a few minutes, both her hands got swollen and hot. This time it took about 1 hr to go back to normal. What could be causing this and where can we look further into it? Also, when she crosses her legs, they fall asleep and get like a cramp.
