What Causes Numbness In The Head And Itching In The Eyes?

Question: Hi,

This is regarding my mother(age 57 years).

For past 3-4 months she is having numbess in head and itching in eyes. She has got spectacles also during this time.

This problem has increased very much and she has some burning sensation near eyes and forehead. Her blood pressure is normal.

Could you please suggest what is the problem and what is the fix?

1)Does your mother has nausea or vomiting?
2)Does her headache increase on exposure to light or sound?
3)Did she lose consciousness anytime?
4)Does her headache wakes her up from sleep during night?
5)Did her headache improve after wearing spectacles to some extent?

Hi Doctor,

Thanks for your response!

My mom does not have headache she is numbness and burning sensation in head , eyes and forehead area.

The sensation remains same all the time. It does not decrease with glasses.

Please help.

Thanks for being in follow-up and providing further details.

Though she may not be having headache, still the symptoms are typical of stress related somatic symptoms.
In my opinion, she should be started on amitriptyline trial(under the guidance of a physician) and at the same time should start doing mental relaxation exercises, like meditation/yoga.If symptoms don't improve on this, a brain imaging(CT scan of head) can be done.
