Question : I've been taking 20 mg prozac for about 2 weeks after switching from celexa that I've taken for a few years. I have been waking up with the shakes and really nervous. is that just a side effect or do I need to try something else. The prozac has made me feel better I just can't beat this stuff in the mornings and when I go into the store I get numbness in my face and feel scared.

Brief Answer:
These are the side effects

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for using healthcaremagic.

What you are experiencing is most likely side effect of prozac which is common during first two weeks and may extend for four weeks at maximum.

In case of such kind of side effects it is advised to take low dosage of anti anxiety drug during first few weeks if the shakes are disabling. If they are not too much troublesome it is better to continue prozac without much intervention. As these side effects are said to be self limiting I do not think you should take some other medication to beat them.

Having said this it is better to take prozac in morning hours in almost 80% of the patients. I am not aware at what time you are taking it but I like to suggest you to take it in early morning just after the breakfast.

Brief Answer:
Plan to take it in morning

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for reverting back to me.

As I suggested earlier start taking it in morning after the breakfast. With just change of schedule it is possible that you will be able to overcome its side effect.

If you not have any further query, you may close the discussion and if possible you may rate the answer for me, so that I get a good feedback.
Wishing you good health.
With best regards
Dr Ashok Kumar
