What Causes Numbness On Left Side Of Face?

default
Posted on Thu, 18 Jun 2015
Question: I have slight numbness on the left side of my face, sometimes it lasts few minutes, sometimes only few seconds. It has been going on now for about 4-5 weeks. I went to the doctor, she checked my blood pressure, it was a high that day, she has asked me to check it regularly, especially before and after my gym. I have done that, usually it is about 130-139/88-95, before and after training. I have also done blood test, all is excellent. Also, I have done CT scan of my head, all good. I am bit worried about this.

Brief Answer:
Just saw your additional updated information on BP

Detailed Answer:
I just saw the additional information on the BP's. Very good that you go to the gym and workout....EXCELLENT job....and at 47 years of age! Terrific....keep that up. I too am a regular gym goer....right now recovering from a leg workout a couple days ago....walking is getting better, thank you. LOL.

The blood pressures you mention and especially "after" the gym which seem slightly elevated don't set off any alarms in my head with respect to your condition. I take it that you're not a smoker or user of tobacco products, etc.

Also, headaches that cause numbness or tingling sensations in the head usually do so in the form of what we refer to as perioral numbness meaning that the sensations are about the lips themselves and sometimes on the inner side of the mouth...feels numb as if you'd been to the dentist. The "large blood vessel" found on CT scan also seems to be inconsequential as far as your facial numbness is concerned. I wouldn't be surprised that the big blood vessel seen on CT scan would possibly "disappear" on MRI scanning.

If you are interested in looking at the blood vessels as well with the MR technique then, ask your doctor to order you an MRA along with the MRI. That vessel you're referring to can be further elucidated on that study for size and caliber as well as whether or not it's of fetal or congenital origin.

And don't forget, worry can add to feelings of numbness....so let's get some of these other things done first and see results then, go from there....and keep up those workouts!

Cheers!
