What Causes Occasional Pain In Eyes And Head?

default
Posted on Tue, 16 Feb 2016
Question: The white of my eye is slightly bloodshot and I'm having pain like a strained muscle in my eye when changing focus from near to far objects. I saw an optician who said my eyes are fine and I don't need glasses. Occasionally Im getting pain around my eye socket and a tension like head pain. Any idea what this could be?

Detailed Answer:
Hello ma'am and welcome.

Thank you for writing to us.

I have gone through your query with diligence and would like you to know that I am here to help. I would first like you to let me know which of the below listed headaches matches yours:

1. Pain on one side of the head; sometimes accompanied by nausea, visual disturbances, etc.

2. Ache around the eyes, nose and forehead

3. Headache accompanied by digestive symptoms, food intake or long gaps between meals, etc.

4. Pain from the neck until the forehead

5. Pain across the forehead only

6. Pain runs from the neck until the top of the skull, not including the forehead

I would also like to ask a few more questions:

+Are you stressed? If so, then rate it on a level of 0 to 5; 0 being absolutely not and 5 being extremely stressed
+Any family history of high blood pressure or cardiac ailments?
+Do you have any flu-like symptoms?
+Are you allergic to anything?
+How have you been sleeping?

I look forward to hearing from you in order to help you further.

Best wishes.

I have on and off pain around my nose, eye and forehead, it sometimes runs down to the back of my neck. It's not all the time and is a dull ache not a stabbing pain. I have just split with my partner so I am not sleeping, I'm probably 5 on your stress scale. My mum has heart problems.

Brief Answer:
Stress and anxiety are certain; other 2 factors need investigation

Detailed Answer:
Hello once again ma'am.

Thank you so much for that information.

I do believe the headaches and eye redness could be due to a couple of reasons, coupled up into the following:

+Stress
+Anxiety
+Sinus abnormalities (not sure about that, but a possibility; need to relate with other symptoms and an X-ray PNS)
+Blood pressure should also be monitored

I am almost sure that stress and anxiety are both major contributing factors, but the other 2 factors will require investigation and further confirmation/ruling out. But please do try and get in touch with your physician for further evaluation and management.

Best wishes.
