What Causes Occasional Pressure And Pain In Upper Stomach After A Lap Band Surgery?

default
Posted on Tue, 17 Mar 2015
Question: I had the Lapband Surgery in 2009. Upon waking I had a horrible pain in my stomach, I was told it was common, it did go away after a few hours. About a year after the surgery, I developed the same feeling of trapped air in my upper stomach, extremely painful. I have had the same attacks every few months. It takes 4-7 hours of rubbing my stomach, moving around, walking and pressure on my back to try to make the pain go away. It starts with pressure and turns into constant stomach pain (much like the pain I felt when I woke up from the Lapband Surgery. Should I see a specialist? I never had this pain before the Labband.

Brief Answer:
I strongly suggest to see your surgeon and a gastroenterologist...

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you for asking!
I read your query and understood your concerns.

Although complication after lap band surgery are minimal, there have been reported complications. The most mentioned complication on literature are: bandage intolerance, changed bowel habits, hiatal hernia and an increased risk for gallbladder stone.

Your symptoms may be related to the above mentioned complications and a complete evaluations from surgeon and gastroenterologist is necessary.

This is why I strongly suggest to see your surgeon and a gastroenterologist for a proper evaluation to find out the exact etiology of your symptoms.

Wish you health!
