Question : my wife has been prescribed hydroheal-am for final treatment of a small residual area of major burn injuries which has been treated in hospital and subsequently at home for past 4months. however 2 hours after applying the gel over an area of 2.5 x 2.5 inches on the waist which is still oozing there is increase in pain over the area which is not understood. does the quantity of the gel application after cleaning the area by natural saline matter. how much should be applied each time. is the pain reaction normal after 2 hours delay, did we apply too much. there is a gauage covering the wound after the application. so far the recovery has been good using sofradex and soframycin and eugraf, but this small area remains for past 3 weeks hence the change of medicine was prescribed today along with continuing eugraf

Brief Answer:
Possibility of infected wound; upload a picture

Detailed Answer:
Hello. Thanks for writing to us at healthcaremagic

I am Dr. Kakkar. I have gone through your query.

The most likely reason for increased pain after dressing is that the wound is infected.
Hydroheal dressings are supposed to sooth and decrease pain rather than increase pain.

Can you upload a picture of the burn wound?

A burn wound would heal slowly if it is infected. Scaring resulting from burn injury delays wound healing, which in turn can become secondarily infected with bacteria and further delay healing.

In my view she should be restarted on a course of an oral antibiotic along with topical antiseptic cleansing of the wound apart from daily dressings.
