Question: I am a 52 year old white female. I have been diagnosed with fibromyalgia. I have pain ranging from mild to sever all over my body. I have trouble standing and can no longer climb stairs. I also am being treated for depression. I can no longer remember things like I should. I stay scared most of the time. I feel I am going crazy. The doctor checked my B12 and it was 278. Could this be contributing to my problems. I am also Vit. D def and I am taking Vit D pills

Brief Answer:
Yes low vitamin B12 and D can contribute to depression and fibromylgia

Detailed Answer:
Hello Madam,

My comments are as follows:

1. Vitamin B12 normal range varies from 150 to 1000 depending upon laboratory. Your B12 level, though normal,is on lower side. Considering depression and fibromyalgia problems, I would like to keep vitamin levels on the higher side. B12 is an important vitamin for nervous and muscular system and deficiency of it can cause numbness, tingling and sometime pain also. So in my opinion, you will benefit from using either oral or inject form of B12.

Besides, Vitamin D is important factor for bone strength. Deficiency of it can also cause pain symptoms. So vitamin D supplement will help you for sure.

2. Cymblata is good drug for fibromylgia. It should be given up to 80 mg if no improvement with lower dose. I am not sure what is your current dosage. If it is below 80mg, I would suggest discussing with your doctor.
Another option is desvenlafaxine which can help in depression and fibromyalgia.

3. Lastly another molecule flupirtine maleate is also very useful in somatic pain with depression. You can discuss about that also with your treating doctor if you do not get satisfactory improvement with cymbalta.

In the nutshell, the present situation can improve with positive approach and care of a psychiatrist through counselling and medicines.

Hope I have answered your query, I will be happy to help further.
regards,
Dr.Chintan Solanki.
