Brief Answer:
No need to worry, but be watchful

Detailed Answer:
Hello

Thanks for the query

Aphthous ulcer, herpetic ulcer, traumatic ulcer or sometimes oral thrush(localised fungal infection) can cause pain or discomfort. But in all of these there must be some visible changes in the oral cavity.
Many a times children of this age don't able to localize the exact site or nature of discomfort.I would suggest you to examine his oral cavity thoroughly(including gum, cheek and tongue) for any abnormality.Sometimes the changes due to any particular disease appears after few days.Until the finding appears it is advised to observe closely.

You need not to worry. As you are constantly observing and if you don't find any changes,my suggestion is to wait for 2-3 days and even then if the problem persists get him evaluated by a dentist/pediatrician.

I shall be happy to answer if you have any more doubts.
Wish your child good health
Regards
