Question : Hello Dr. My girlfriend has suffered from a scratchy and soar throat for 2 weeks. She says she is now spitting up some blood. Do you have any idea what may be wrong? To my knowledge she has not medicated herself.

She may be having a throat infection

Detailed Answer:
Hello

Since she is suffering from 2 weeks and bleeding has alos started , it is likely she may be having a throat infection.

Please confirm this with a doctor as she will need to start antibiotics, normally i start my patients on amoxicillin with clavullanic acid twice a day for a week.

The bleeding may be due to constant throat clearing or cough and will subside once the infection is cured.

For the time being you can ask her to do warm salt water gargles thrice a day and stop spicy and oily food.
