Question : I was feeling itching in my ear from last 2-3 days. Initially i thought some holi color which may have entered my ear must be causing it. so i used clotrin ear drop for 2 days (once a day) suddenly since yesterday evening i started feeling pain in my ear and it seems little blocked too. Pain is significant and even caused discomfort while chewing food. also even if i move my ear with hand i feel pain.

can you please help me this. is it some sort of infection, should i visit doctor

1. Ear wax is hygroscopic. It absorbs the ear drops and swells. In the deeper bony part of the external ear canal, this swelling causes discomfort and severe pain.

2. This will explain the increased discomfort and pain after 2-3 days. The other possibility is infection. Holi colour itself is unlikely to cause pain unless you are allergic to it.

3. A simple ear examination with an otoscope by an ENT Specialist will settle the diagnosis.

4. Thereafter appropriate medication will bring rapid relief.

5. Hence a visit to a local ENT Specialist is recommended.
