What Causes Pain And Muscle Weakness After Botox Injections?

Question: Hi Doc!

I did the Botox in my masseter for face-lift 4 days ago. I can see some change on my face today. But it seems that my left side face is smaller and more lifted than my right side. And my mouth is a little bit crooked when I smile. Actually, my left side was a little smaller before Botox, but not as obvious as this. I always chew by my left side. During and after the injection, I can feel pain and muscle weakness only on my left side. I still feel uncomfortable in my left side now. But I feel nothing on right face. They put same quantity of Botox in two side: 20-20. Btw, I can hear a strange tiny sound like the bone or muscle is dragged on left side when I open my mouth widely. I am afraid that the Botox in right side dose't work. Will it be as small as the left side later?

Brief Answer:
Overparalysis due to botox

Detailed Answer:
Hi Mam.

I understand your query and concern.

You seem to have differential action of botox on both sides of the face.

The action of the left side of the face is more prominent.

The left side seem to exhibit super sensitivity and paralysis on the left side due to probable deep penetration of the botox into the muscles.

These effects are usually temporary and are expected to reverse in 1-3months.

Its not that botox has not worked on the right side.It is excessive paralysis of the left half of the face.

It shall resolve in 1-3 months on its own.No specific therapy is needed.

The changes you mentioned will not take place on the right side later.

I Advice you to keep away from these injections for 3 months from here on.

Drugs like Physostigmine will help to resolve this paralysis when taken under strict medical supervision.

Thank you.

Thanks for detailed answer doc.

So according to what you said, my right face will not be changed as my right side. Will I have the asymmetrical face for 1-3 months? Will it be more serious? I am worried about that. I hope they will be the same size after all the muscle gone. I don't want to be like this.

I mean I only did the Detox 4 days ago and still have muscles on both sides face. It will take longer for all the muscles gone. So after that, will my face be symmetry?

Brief Answer:
The condition will not worsen

Detailed Answer:
Hi Mam.

I understand your concern.

The facial asymmetry will not worsen as time passes on.

You will recover soon in 1-3 months.

This will improve on the right side as well.

Just relax and you will be normal in 1 month.

Thank you.
