Question: hi I have spent a lot of time and money in the past 18 months trying to find out what is the root cause of nerve related symptoms that developed (coincided) with a
stent being fitted into my LAD in April 2012. I have chased the cause (neuropathy type symptoms) as being medication related (as i was started on
lipitor after the stent was fitted and started almost immediately having issues with pain and
numbness, pin and needles etc in both feet and carpel tunnel type symptoms in my hands). I was that convinced that it was the
statin that I ceased taking it altogether in October 2012 yet the symptoms have not ceased (increased or decreased) since stopping the statin.
I have had several nerve conduction studies and nerves all have come back normal in my feet but the hands they believe I have mild Carpel Tunnel). With the feet related issues which have been concerning me for a long time my GP recently believed I had the early signs of MS, after that diagnosis from my GP I subsequently met with my
neurologist recently and he totally threw that notion out (we did some more nerve conduction studies on my feet and an EMG on muscles, plus a whole host of other checks he performed and previous scans of spine and brain have not shown any lesions), he said I defaintely don't have any neuropathy or MS. I have a lot of blood work done over the past 18 months and ruled out all the other possibilities such as thryoid,
diabetes, vitamin defencies, heavy metals etc etc etc.
Anyway the most recent visit with my nero said that he wants another MRI done on my lower back region as he thinks possibly my symptoms in my feet could be related to nerve compression of some description, will be interesting to see what the scan comes back with.
My question to you today is this, I am not familiar with the anatomy of the body but I can't but help think that the insertion of the stent and my symptoms started, the cardiologist who placed the stent told me after the proceedure how he had really stretched the
artery open with the stent and given that it's now in a permanently 'stretched' position (as opposed to when I didn't have a stent and the artery would have only expanded when exercising heavily) is it possible that the artery is now pressing on a nerve?
