What Causes Pain And Swelling Above My Right Ear?

Question: .I have pain and swelling above my right ear. It is close to my forehead and goes almost to the back of my head. What could be causing it?

There could be many causes of swelling situated behind the ear. Following two are the common causes

1. Lymph node enlargement : Enlargement of post auricular lymph node (node situated behind the ear ) could produce pain and swelling. The swelling arising through node is firm and XXXXXXX

2. Mastoiditis : Infection in mastoid air cells can produce swelling. The swelling is usually bony hard and not XXXXXXX

Exact diagnosis will depend on clinical on clinical examination.

I would suggest you the following

1. Hot water fomentation

2. Analgesic like Ibuprofen will be helpful

3. Antibiotics for 5 days will help
