What Causes Pain Around Lower Left Rib Region And Heart Burn?

default
Posted on Sat, 9 Aug 2014
Question: I've been dealing with a pain around my lower left rib region. It's the area between my fat rolls. It's tender to the touch and swollen from time to time and I believe it may be associated with my ibs-like symptoms. I also have severe heartburn and I've been taking prilosec for it. When my stomach has a "flare-up" my bowel habits change often and the color is light brown or yellow.

Brief Answer:
IBS...

Detailed Answer:
Hi there,

I am sorry for the situation you are in.

Your symptoms (pain around your lower left rib region, which is tender to the touch and swollen from time to time) are typical symptoms of IBS.

Having heartburn (stomach hyperacidity) will cause abdominal discomfort and will aggravate the symptoms of IBS.

To my opinion, you should run further tests :
- upper endoscopy to evaluate the extent of damages to the stomach
- abdominal ultrasound
- schedule colonoscopy

If everything is ok, then, IBS is confirmed. Meanwhile, I advise to continue with Prisolec with increased dose and to take buscopan for the pain.

Hope it helped! Wish fast recovery!
