Question : I have questions about 2 different areas.
One, the back of my knee has started hurting about a week ago. It does NOT hurt when it is at rest, but only when I walk. I have some muscular damage in my back and walk with two canes. Am 65, overweight, but exercise and eat healthy. No other health problems. My knee swells and I retain water around the knee and the calf. It does go down at night or when I raise my leg, when at rest. The second part is I think I may have a hernia. Maybe two. When I bend over, cough or sneeze I get a pain in my side, that if I rub it, it goes away. The reason I think it is two is that it moves--can be on my right or left side under my breasts. Is either one of these something I should be worried about?

Thank you.

1. No swelling behind the knee.
Not diabetic.
I take 10m Lisinopril HTZ (I think the initials are HTZ), since July 2006.
Stiffness in back in the a.m., but loosens up after moving around.
I think I probably pulled a muscle or ligament, but I was confused by the water
retention. Especially since just one leg. I love to swell when I have to
much salt, but is usually uniform throughout the body. No other joint problem.
Wondered about a possible blood clot, but it seems it would hurt all the time
then.
Only hurts when I walk. At rest, it is fine.

2. Doesn't really swell. Just feels like a knot and hurts. But if I rub the spot,
about 10-20 seconds it goes away. Only painful if sneeze, cough or move
wrong.
Don't know about family history. Was adopted.
Nothing involved with nipples or breast. Upper abdomen.
Back to you......

Brief Answer:
Could be Joint arthritis. Swelling unlikely to be hernia

Detailed Answer:
Hello

Thank you for getting back with the answers. I have gone through them. I'll explain both your questions separately for your ease.

1.
Your symptoms are suggesting Arthritis. As you are already taking OTC medication so i would suggest you to visit hospital and get an appointment for a rheumatologist. He will examine joint in detail and will order some investigations to confirm it. He will then give prescription medicines for arthritis which if taken regularly will show improvement.
Chances of blood clot are unlikely like this so i would suggest you to relax. Stress almost always aggravates a problem.

2.
This swelling is unlikely to be hernia but it needs further workup as it could be some benign mass. I would suggest you to visit hospital and get an appointment for a gynecologist. She will examine breast and will order some investigations including ultrasound breast to see if there is any swelling. Further workup will depend on the results of investigations.

Hope I have answered your query. If you have any further questions I will be happy to help if not then don't forget to close the discussion and rate it.
Wishing you good health !!
