What Causes Pain Below Knees?

default
Posted on Fri, 21 Aug 2015
Question: In the last three days I have had an aching pain in both of my legs, below the knee, primarily in the shin area. The aching is continuous, and negatively affects my ability to fall asleep and stay asleep because of the pain. I took naproxen sodium last night, which abated the pain for ten hours, but now it has begun again. The only new events in the last ten days: I have begun a low carbohydrate diet for weight loss; and I played tennis for the first time in a while last week (but the pain did not begin until five days later). Any ideas as to cause, or which specialist I should consult with?

Brief Answer:
It could be the exertion or Simvastatin.

Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXXXXX
This seems like a muscular pain to me completely taking into consideration the Tennis starting recently. Is there any swelling in the limbs? Any redness or color changes? Does the aching decrease on elevating the limbs or increase or no effect?
I suggest you stop Naproxen and start taking Paracetamol instead. Another option is to add Tab Pantoprazole 40mg twice a day half an hour before meals and continue the Naproxen as the acidity produced by the Naproxen can be neutralized by Pantocid.
Another reason for the pain could be the Simvastatin that you take. That has a propensity for muscle aches and liver dysfunction. I suggest you get your liver function tests done and stop the Simvastatin for a month and then see.
Do not worry.
